Advanced Standing Options

Advanced Standing

With university or college credits, you may be eligible for advanced standing in one of our post-secondary programs. You could earn a diploma in as little as one year. Please contact the program coordinator for details.

We also offer formal accelerated and fast-track programs. With a degree or diploma in a related field, you may be eligible to complete a diploma at Loyalist College in 16 months or less in the following programs:

Credit transfer

If you have already taken a subject, why take it again? You can be awarded transfer credits for credentials earned at another post-secondary institution. You must apply to your course professor for transfer credits within the first 10 school days of the academic semester. You will need to provide all supporting documents, including official transcripts and course descriptions, to your professor.

Courses that are approved for transfer credit are listed on your academic transcripts, but not calculated in your program weighted average. Generally, transfer credits are not granted if the initial credit was obtained more than seven years prior to the request. For more information on our transfer credit processes and policies, please visit the Transfer Credit and Exemption page, review the Transfer Credit and Exemption FAQ, or email pathways@loyalistcollege.com

Prior learning assessment and recognition

Loyalist also offers credit for your life experience and work skills. Applicants with work-based knowledge and other types of non-credentialed learning may be eligible for credits at Loyalist. Applicants with a communications background may not need to take College Writing Skills, for example, or those with extensive computer knowledge may challenge introductory courses in Computer Applications. You can apply to have your learning assessed and receive a graded credit for each course you challenge. For a detailed description of the process, please see Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition.

Dual credit

Dual credit programs are programs approved by the Ministry of Education that allow high school students to take college or apprenticeship courses that count towards both their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and a post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree, or a Certificate of Apprenticeship. You can complete your high school diploma and prepare for a successful transition to college or an apprenticeship at the same time! For more information, please visit Dual Credits/SCWI.

Double diplomas

Loyalist College offers a wide range of double diploma opportunities.
