Loyalist College is proud of the accomplishments of our students who have showcased their knowledge at past Skills Canada and Skills Ontario competitions. The competitive edge of a Loyalist education has been well represented by our talented participants and medalists. Manufacturing is among the Bay of Quinte region’s most important economic contributors, and Loyalist is preparing the future of the workforce to adapt, innovate and lead.

Skills Canada

The Skills Canada National Competition is the only multi-trade and technology competition in the country. Thousands of students visit the trade floor annually, and more than 550 participate in the 40 skilled trade and technology competitions. By allowing students to compete at the national level, SCNC provides hands-on work experience and empowers students to discover rewarding career opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies.

“Being able to compete at the Skills Canada Competition was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. The support I had from everyone around me was a huge blessing and I couldn’t have done it without all of them. The skills I have gained from the Manufacturing Engineering Technician program, along with the incredible and knowledgeable professors I had, has helped me gain an excellent starting ground in this field, and I look forward to seeing where it takes me.”

Skills Ontario

Skills Ontario is a province-wide charitable non-profit that partners with school boards, colleges, small businesses, large companies, labour groups, and governments to provide opportunities for youth to explore and develop skills for successful careers in the skilled trades and technologies. “It was extraordinary to win a silver medal. I’ve obtained a great education at Loyalist and this was my chance to show what I could do. The Manufacturing Engineering Technician diploma program was tough but it prepared me for real-world situations, focusing on attention to detail, which is very important in this field.”

“I was shocked and amazed to find out that I had won the competition. When I entered the Manufacturing Engineering Technician program two years ago, I had never opened CAD software and my mechanical skills were limited at best. My professors’ dedication and passion for helping me to succeed has taught me the skills I need. They are role models I will follow in years to come. My time at Loyalist has been an incredible journey, one of the best experiences of my life. With the skills that I’ve gained at the College, I can’t help but smile and look forward to future opportunities.”

“It’s an honour to win and I would like to thank the faculty at Loyalist for supporting me. At the competition, it wasn’t easy to complete a milling and lathe project under pressure and tight timelines, but I was able to make the most of the advanced machines, which are very similar to the ones we use at Loyalist. This experience has increased my confidence as I start my documentation position within the maintenance department of Tyco.”
