Summer Camps and Workshops Draw Hundreds to Loyalist College

July 08, 2011

The Loyalist College campus is bustling with a seasonal summer surge of energy. Kids and teens are participating in summer camps, and adult beginners, hobbyists and seasoned artists are enjoying Summer Arts 2011.

The Summer Arts program, now in its 20th year, draws participants from across Ontario, Quebec and the northern United States as it continues to offer a wide selection of choices, talented instructors and inspiring locations. Advantage Sports Camp, a long-time community favourite, has added another dimension by introducing rugby to this year’s athletic lineup. Serious Summer Fun Camps for Kids and Teens allows parents to find the fit that suits their children best—whether imaginative, practical, musical, or creative—there’s something for everyone. Approximately 800 individuals have chosen Loyalist as their 2011 destination for summer camps and workshops.

“One of the new additions we’re pleased to offer this year is Graffiti Art, which will focus on this exciting current and commercial urban art form,” said Heather Cockerline, Program Coordinator in the School of Continuing Education. Two programs are being offered—one for 9 to 11 year olds will run the week of July 11 to 15 and one for children aged twelve and over will run July 18 to 22. “Students will study the positive strengths of graffiti art and the culture from which it originated. Work completed will be showcased to the students’ families and the College community at the end of each week.”

Trudie Lake, Manager of Continuing Education, said the College is pleased to be offering new options for adults and children. “It’s great to see the campus brimming with happy campers again this summer. We encourage everyone to explore the campus while they are here and see the exciting growth and positive changes Loyalist is experiencing.”

Some spaces are still available—those interested in the Summer Arts or Serious Summer Fun Camps for Kids and Teens are encouraged to contact Heather Cockerline at hcockerline@loyalistc.on.ca. Advantage Sports Camp inquiries should be directed to Jim Buck at (613) 969-1913, ext. 2245.
