Students Organize Ten Thousand Villages Sale on Campus

December 07, 2011

The Loyalist International Support Worker students are hosting a Ten Thousand Villages Holiday Season Sale in the Kente Building cafeteria on Wednesday, December 7 from 9 am to 3 pm, Thursday, December 8 from 9 am to 7 pm and Friday, December 9 from 9 am to 3 pm. There will be ornaments, handicrafts, jewelry, chocolate, coffee and artisan cheese available for purchase.

"As students in the International Support Worker program we are encouraged to think not only about the products we purchase, but to remember those who make the items, practicing the motto of ‘think twice – give twice’ as we value and remember those who make the products," said Michelle Heffernan. "We hope that individuals attending the sale will take the time to ask questions and learn more about Fair Trade practices."

Angie Fazekas, Manager of Ten Thousand Villages in Cobourg was pleased to be working with the students. "Initially I came to discuss Fair Trade with the students in the International Support Worker program. The excitement and interest expressed by the group led to them hosting this week’s sale on campus. It is very encouraging to be working with these students. College, university and high school students are our future leaders so it is positive and encouraging to see this group’s interest and commitment to Fair Trade practices."
