Belleville, Ontario, April 18, 2012 – Loyalist College will host prospective students and members of the community at its annual Spring Open House on Saturday, April 21st. Visitors are invited to tour the campus, attend information sessions, and meet with teaching faculty and students. The application fee ($95) will be waived for all new applications submitted during the Open House and everyone will be eligible for a draw to win $2,000 towards their tuition in 2012/2013.
“For our future students, this opportunity to explore the campus with their family and ask questions, often solidifies their decision to enroll in the College,” said Loyalist President Maureen Piercy. “During the Open House, we take time to showcase the programs, services, and areas on campus that are meaningful to each individual, based on their interests and goals. Empowering people to achieve their potential with the right knowledge and customized experiences is what we’re all about.”

The demand for skilled workers is increasing as the baby boomer generation retires. By 2031, the shortfall of workers across Canada could rise as high as 1.8 million, according to Dr. Rick Miner’s report, People Without Jobs, Jobs Without People. Dr. Miner projects that within five years, there will be 500,000 vacancies for skilled workers and almost 450,000 unskilled workers who are unable to qualify for those jobs. To bridge that gap, 77% of the workforce will need post-secondary credentials by 2031, compared to 60% who hold them today. Increasing that percentage is a sound investment for individuals and for society when you consider that the average annual return is above 10% for a undergraduate degree, and even higher for a college diploma. Loyalist College develops programs that are essential to the workforce both locally and provincially.
Loyalist College prepares students for a rewarding career by combining rigorous academic standards with hands-on training from industry experts. Programs range from apprenticeships and certificates to diplomas and post-graduate studies. Loyalist offers more than 60 full-time programs and 77 university transfer agreements around the world. The best testament to the College’s value is from students, 97 percent of whom say they would recommend Loyalist to a friend. Loyalist is committed to helping students find great jobs, as well as supporting and enhancing the economic and social development of all individuals in its communities.
