OCAA Women

February 18, 2011

Thursday, February 24th marks the first day of competition in the 2011 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women’s Volleyball Provincial Championships. Loyalist College will host Ontario’s top eight teams in the three-day competition that wraps up with the gold-medal game on Saturday, February 26th at 4:00 p.m.

The top two teams from the East and West Divisions will get a bye directly into the tournament, while the third to sixth place teams from each division will faceoff for the remaining four places. “These eight teams represent some of the best women volleyball players in our province,” said Jim Buck, Manager of Athletics and Campus Recreation. “The level of play at this championship will be exceptional as the participating teams vie for a position at the National Championship in Saint John, New Brunswick in March.”

Loyalist and the Lancers are proud to be hosting this year’s Provincial Championships for the first time in the College’s history. The women’s volleyball team has had an excellent season, with a 17-3 record. The team now has one remaining game, a crossover match against Redeemer University College from the West Conference, set to take place Saturday, February 19th at 1:00 p.m. For more information on the Lancers visit loyalistathletics.com.

Everyone in the Belleville community is invited to come out and support the 2011 OCAA Women’s Volleyball Provincial Championships.

“It is an honour for Loyalist to host the Championship,” said Loyalist President Maureen Piercy. “The women’s team has had a strong season and we’re very proud of them. We look forward to everyone seeing some very exciting, high-skill volleyball with these top athletes, and we hope to see all of our loyal fans filling the stands.”

Championship games begin Thursday at 1:00 p.m. and continue through Saturday. The bronze-medal match is set for Saturday, February 26th followed by the gold-medal game at 4:00 p.m. A complete schedule can be found at ocaa2011wvb.com. Admission to all games is free and the doors are open to everyone.
