New Members Join the Loyalist College Board of Governors

Four new members have joined the Loyalist College Board of Governors and were welcomed to their first official meeting on September 10th by Board Chair, Margaret Werkhoven.

Tamara KLEINSCHMIDT holds a Bachelor of Arts/Political Science from the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston.  She also holds an Emergency Medical Care Assistant Certificate from the Ambulance and Emergency Care Program, Algonquin College.  Currently, Ms. Kleinschmidt sits as an Executive Committee Member of the Military Families Fund which supports Military Families with unforeseen and immediate needs as a result of the military lifestyle.  Formerly the Co-Chair of the Military Family National Advisory Board, Ms. Kleinschmidt has also served as Chair of the Board of Directors, Trenton Military Family Resource Centre, and as Chair of the Board of Directors, Ottawa Military Family Resource Centre.

Brian SMITH has more than 35 years experience in administration, long-term care, and financial management in the field of community health services.  He currently holds the position of Director, The John M. Parrott Centre, Long-Term Care Home in Napanee for the County of Lennox and Addington. Prior to this he was a Program Supervisor with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Mr. Smith is a graduate of the Business Administration Program at Loyalist College.  He is a member of the Ontario Long Term Care Association Board of Directors and formerly served on the OLTCA Human Resources Committee.  Mr. Smith is the immediate Past President of the Lennox and Addington, Health and Community Services Coalition, and a Canvasser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  He has extensive previous involvement in volunteerism and fundraising.

Jake VAN ROOY was elected as Student Representative in 2009, and is a third-year student in the Accounting Program at Loyalist College.  He is also a member of the Loyalist Student Government.  His hobbies are playing chess, keeping fit, working on cars, and meeting new people.

Scott WILLIAMS has more than 27 years industry experience in providing custom training solutions to organizations from Government to the private sector.  He currently holds the position of Chief Learning Officer with Nexient Learning Inc., Toronto, where he has overall responsibility for products, thought leadership and quality.  He holds a B.Sc. from Queen’s University (Mathematics) and an M.Ed. from the University of Toronto (Adult Education).  While at Queen’s, he was involved with many different campus organizations including the Faculty Board and Senate, the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society, and the Alma Mater Society.  From 1992-1994 he was a member of the East York Public Library Board, and he has had extensive involvement in church groups and charity fundraising.

The Board of Governors includes 12 community members who are appointed by the provincial College Compensation and Appointments Council, the College President, and four elected members representing the students, faculty, support staff and administration of the College.
