Providing Certification to Executives Working In the Non-Profit Sector

First 11 local leaders graduate today from ‘Leading and Managing in a Non-Profit Environment’ program

Belleville, Ontario, September 18, 2012 – Loyalist College Training & Knowledge Centre (LTKC) is delighted to announce that 11 executives from non-profit organizations within Hastings and Prince Edward Counties graduated today from a new leadership training program, offered in collaboration with Volunteer & Information Quinte (VIQ). Titled, ‘Leading and Managing in a Non-Profit Environment,’ the new certification was made possible by grant funding provided by Trenval Business Development Corporation and the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP), a multi-million dollar Government of Canada initiative that promotes rural socioeconomic development in Eastern Ontario.

“One of the benefits of introducing this program with VIQ has been the opportunity to recognize the important contributions of non-profit organizations in creating a diversified regional economy,” said Chuck O’Malley, LTKC Corporate Account Manager. “Our goal is to extend non-profit reach by equipping executives with the advanced skills and knowledge to make their organizations more productive. It will help to create new jobs and to build self-sustaining communities.”

Strategies for increasing non-profit organizational effectiveness were shared with executives through programs such as Self-Managed Leadership, Human Resources Principles, Maximizing Delegation Skills, Board Excellence and Developing Winning Proposals. Graduates of the program will be well positioned to support skills and business development, as well as the retention and attraction of employees. In Hastings and Prince Edward Counties there are over 900 non-profit agencies employing approximately 2,500 people. These organizations provide over 1,400 programs to our communities, impacting more than 75,000 people in the Quinte area.

“Volunteer & Information Quinte is excited to partner with the LTKC to offer leadership development training to the not-for-profit sector,” said VIQ Executive Director Brenda Snider. “We are also grateful to Trenval Business Development Corporation for helping to fund this initiative, in addition to funding through the EODP.”

Representatives of LTKC, VIQ and Trenval Business Development Corporation presented certificates of completion to the following graduates during the ceremony on September 18th:

  • Brenda Adams, VON Community Care Quinte West
  • Laura Hare, Alzheimer Society Belleville/Hastings
  • Keith Harford, Prince Edward Learning Centre

  • Janeil Neilsen, VON Community Care Quinte West
  • Rosi Ouellette, Belleville Minor Hockey
  • Marsha Roadhouse, Community Learning Alternatives
  • Brenda Snider, Volunteer & Information Quinte
