Loyalist Students Get Connected

September 13, 2012

On Wednesday, September 12th, the Student Success Department and Career Centre at Loyalist College teamed up to host the Getting Connected Fair. During the two-hour event in the cafeteria on campus, nearly two hundred students took advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the clubs and services available to them.

“Our goal is to enhance student success,” said Dan Truman, Student Success Coordinator. “We invited all of the services out to have face-to-face interactions with new and returning students to explain in person what they do and how they can help.”

More than a dozen services and clubs were in attendance, including Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), Crime Stoppers, Xerox, Financial Aid, the Aboriginal Centre, the Mature Student Group, and more.

“My professor encouraged the class to check out the Getting Connected Fair,” said Haley Tanner, a first-year Early Childhood Education student. “I ended up learning a lot about Xerox, because I didn’t know I could go there if I needed print services.”

Katie Norris, another first-year Early Childhood Education student concurred, “You can get a real hands-on look at everything when it’s set-up in this way. There are some clubs and services here that I didn’t get an opportunity to look into on Orientation Day.”

Loyalist’s Getting Connected Fair is just one of many initiatives that the College community have provided to welcome students and help them to settle in and enjoy a successful semester.
