Loyalist Launches New Web Development Programs This Fall

July 25, 2011

Loyalist College is pleased to announce the launch of two new web development programs that will be delivered through the College’s School of Continuing Education. Students can work toward a three-semester Internet Applications and Web Development Fundamentals certificate program, or a more extensive five-semester Internet Applications and Web Development diploma. Both programs will provide students with the knowledge and practical experience necessary to excel within the rapidly expanding field of web development.

“There is a high demand from both potential students and employers for the skills training these programs provide,” said Trudie Lake, Manager of Continuing Education. “We’re excited to be able to offer them online, making them accessible to learners near and far. Those planning to pursue employment in this field will need to be adept web users and this delivery mode will help them develop that proficiency.”

Students will graduate with the skills to enable them to work independently or collaboratively with other information technology workers in a variety of environments. Computer software development firms, information technology consulting firms, graphic design agencies, and information technology units in the private and public sectors are just some of the areas in which these skills can be applied.

“Today it is rare for a business or industry not to have an expanding need for a strategic and adaptable web presence. With this marketing shift comes the need for skilled professionals to manoeuvre the intricacies of the internet,” said Tom Malloy, Dean of Skills Training, Access and Continuing Education. “These new program options are perfect additions to the existing opportunities for students to obtain recognized credentials in relevant fields through the convenience of online studies at Loyalist College.”

“The development of these new programs demonstrates Loyalist’s commitment to providing relevant career-oriented training through a range of delivery options,” said Bill Walsh, Vice-President, Enrolment Management and Student Services. “Loyalist’s distance learning opportunities offer tremendous benefits to a diversified student population.  The College’s continued growth in this area enables us to increasingly meet the needs of students and the demands of evolving technologies in the workplace.”
