Loyalist Continues Enrolment for September

August 29, 2013

Belleville, Ontario, August 28, 2013 – When Loyalist College opens its doors next week, some 3,000 new and returning students on the Belleville Campus will see a fresh look.  The College has added a spectacular new Welcome Centre, a refurbished Dining Hall (cafeteria) with inviting areas for relaxing and an exciting media-ready stage area, and a new Digital Media Centre, including an integrated newsroom which is a state-of-the-art showcase for the College’s internationally renowned media programs.  It will be the home of various Loyalist media including the online community news service QNet News.

Although a number of programs are at capacity or waitlisted, some programs, such as Broadcast Engineering Technology, Biotechnology, Child and Youth Worker, and Architectural Technology, are still accepting applications.

“These programs offer an immediate return on investment,” said Loyalist College President Maureen Piercy. “Within six months of graduation, 100 percent of recent grads in these programs had jobs. That kind of track record speaks for itself.”

Loyalist offers more than 60 full-time certificate, diploma and advanced diploma programs, many with links to degree articulations for graduates interested in that path. Advisors from business, industry, and community organizations contribute to relevant curriculum – Loyalist provides lifelong learning opportunities to help individuals from all walks of life and all learning backgrounds reach their personal and career goals.

“Many people are looking to sharpen their skills to get ahead, or to make a career change,” said President Piercy. “To help them make a successful transition to College, we have many excellent resources available.  For example, our Student Success Hub offers peer tutoring, seminars and drop-in help with math, writing and computers. Our outstanding faculty members have extensive industry experience and they go the extra mile to create a positive and high-energy learning environment, including field placements internships and other experiential learning, and to help students make connections with employers. Whatever support our students need, all members of the Loyalist team are here to help. Student success is our top priority.”

James Coutts from Tweed was recently accepted to study Animation beginning this September. “I went online and was excited about the classes,” he said. “Everyone thought it was too late to get in this Fall but I applied anyway. My mind was made up. I just wanted to start. You can imagine how good it felt when I heard I was accepted.”

President Piercy adds: “Loyalist is a wonderful learning and living environment and I encourage all students to make the very most of their time here. We want students to get involved in Orientation Week activities, compete in and cheer for Varsity athletics, laugh over lunch with their friends and volunteer in the community.” That message seems to resonate with students: 96 percent say they would recommend Loyalist to a friend or family member.
