Loyalist College Welcomes Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Program, May 11 – 16

May 13, 2014

From Sunday, May 11 to Friday, May 16, Loyalist College is pleased to welcome 30 young women and men to the Belleville campus for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program. Rotary Clubs between Belleville and Toronto – District 7070 have sponsored the participants, aged 19 to 25, for the annual, week-long leadership training event.

The theme of the community-based educational program, Leadership Begins with Me, encourages participants to better understand themselves while earning the respect and trust of others. Initiated in 1971, RYLA continues to bridge communication gaps between generations and strengthen relationships between youth and their families, and within their communities.

What:   Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Program

When: Sunday, May 11 – Friday, May 16

Where:  Loyalist College Campus, Wallbridge-Loyalist Rd., Belleville

“I believe that if you want to improve the world, you have to start by improving your own community,” says Victoria Ikeno, one of this year’s RYLA participants and a Social Service Worker student at Loyalist. “During this week at RYLA, I hope to make new friends and develop effective leadership skills that I can apply and share on an ongoing basis. Opportunities like this are important as they help to strengthen who we are and what we are able to achieve.”
