On September 8th, over 3,000 new and returning post-secondary and skills training students will be starting the 2009/2010 school year at Loyalist College. Welcome activities include an academic school and program-specific orientation, a drop-in session for mature students and a BBQ luncheon featuring live music for students, faculty and staff.
Plans for Tuesday, September 8th include:
- Academic School Orientation — from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. hosted by the schools’ deans.
- BBQ Lunch and Live Music — from 11:30 until 1:00 p.m. hosted by President Maureen Piercy and George Burton, Vice-President, Enrolment Management and Student Services.
- Mature Student Drop-In — 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at The Hub. This is an opportunity for mature students to connect with their peers.
- Program-Specific Orientation — 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The first-year students will reconvene for program-specific orientation with their program coordinator and faculty.
“This fall we are experiencing a double-digit increase of over 15 percent in the number of new students registered at Loyalist,” said George Burton, Vice-President, Enrolment Management and Student Services. “These numbers include students coming directly from high school, mature students and those funded through government-sponsored programs including Second Career, for which we have over 400 students at various points within the approval and program of study process. Each will bring different experiences and perspectives to the College, enriching the learning environment for everyone. The number of students returning to the second and third year of programs is also very positive, with the expectation of being 160 over projection. This increase in enrolment mirrors the growth within the Ontario college system. With registration continuing through to mid-September, we anticipate a very active academic year.”
