Loyalist College to Host 16th Annual Career Fair on February 7

January 31, 2013

Loyalist College is pleased to invite current students, alumni, and employers to the 16th Annual Career Fair on February 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Approximately 80 exhibitors, including regional and national employers and post-secondary institutions, will be available to meet with students and alumni. Many of the employers attend each year to fulfill staffing needs, ranging from full-time to part-time, as well as summer and temporary positions.

“The annual Career Fair is one of a number of Loyalist Career Centre services that support students and alumni in their career exploration, planning, and development,” said Loyalist President Maureen Piercy. “In addition to helping job seekers, the event benefits employers who may be looking for new talent to join their teams. Leveraging the remarkable capacity of our learners, ‘the Loyalist Connection’ makes a significant difference to the quality of life of our extended community every day.”

“We want the Loyalist community to know we are here,” says Francine Short, Loyalist Employment and Career Advisor. “We are pleased to provide graduates and students with the tools they need to succeed in the job market.”

The Centre offers everything from computers and Internet access for conducting job searches to assistance with résumé and cover letter creation. Career Advisors work one-on-one with alumni and current students to help them prepare for part-time employment or a career. They also work within the classroom, helping students to complete a Career Development Certificate, which consists of four modules. One of the most popular programs provided through the Centre helps to hone an individual’s interview skills through mock interviews, customized for the individual’s program of study. Other services include the myCareer Portal, an online job posting service.
