Loyalist College Proudly Contributes to Community

October 09, 2009

The students and staff at Loyalist College have started the fall semester with a strong sense of pride in the campus and a commitment to contribute to the community as a whole. Their enthusiasm, leadership, creative and organizational skills are being applied in a wide range of events that will continue to make a positive impact in the Quinte region.

On October 1st the College launched the annual United Way Campaign with a pancake breakfast which raised $1,080 for the United Way of Quinte. This successful event will be followed later this month by the annual United Way fundraising run by the Police Foundations students, organized by professor Larry Cook.

The post-graduate Public Relations students have chosen to host Casino Loyale as their annual fall fundraiser. Staff and students will have the opportunity to play casino-themed games throughout the College with the chance to win a number of prizes. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Public Relations students have held an event in support of the United Way, raising over $6,000 in total.

“Each year, our fall fundraiser for the United Way provides a unique way for students to get hands-on experience in planning and executing an on-campus event,” said Kerry Ramsay, Professor and Coordinator of the post-graduate Public Relations program.  “Not only does this event help build a strong class bond, but it also raises money for a great local charity that has a significant impact on our community.”

The fifth annual Terry Fox Walk, organized by professors Larry Cook and Gerry MacNeil, will be held at the College on October 21st at noon. Loyalist students, staff and community members are invited to participate and raise funds for cancer research and patient care.
