Loyalist College Launches New Marketing Campaign To Shine Spotlight On Expanded School Of Media Studies

Belleville, Ontario, March 27, 2012 – Loyalist College has launched a new marketing campaign in support of its School of Media Studies, a nationally-renowned learning centre for media, journalism, and design. Created to increase awareness for prospective students, the multi-media campaign titled ‘Plan on It’ showcases the wide range of careers available to Loyalist graduates of the Media Studies programs, including Broadcast Engineering Technology, Advertising and Marketing Communications, and the new 3D Video Production, and Graphic Design programs. By expanding the School of Media Studies to 13 full-time programs as of September 2012, the College has responded to employer demands for a workforce with high levels of technological media skills.

“We are proud to promote a School of Media Studies positioning, which reflects the vibrancy and forward-thinking nature of our specialized programs,” says Jane Harrison, Dean of the School of Media Studies. “Both our programs and our graduates have won numerous national and provincial awards, particularly in the categories of Television and New Media Production, Photojournalism and Journalism – Online, Print and Broadcast. Their success is a testament to the practical experience and in-class instruction we offer in our integrated programs, which empower students to create and deliver media content in all channels. We also offer a variety of credentials, ranging from certificates and diplomas to advanced diplomas and post-diploma certificates with both fast-track and accelerated options.”

Developed by They Integrated, a Belleville-based Advertising and Marketing Communications agency in line with the College, Plan on It revolves around a microsite where prospective students can find out more about the School of Media Studies programs and the careers that they are geared towards. As individuals are more likely to enroll if they hear positive things about the College from someone in their social network, this campaign spreads through Loyalist advocates such as existing students and graduates. When a person shares the site, www.planonit.ca, with friends on Facebook or Twitter, they have a chance to win an iPad 3. For individuals who visit the site and respond to the prompts, there are additional prizes, including an iPad 3, a MacBook Pro and a number of tuition rebates. To help build interest, traditional radio and print advertisements are also being rolled out.

“We are delighted with Loyalist College’s Broadcast Engineering Technology program because we need graduates who are proficient in the latest techniques and equipment, not to mention bringing fresh perspective to creative tasks,” says Frank Bruno, Vice President TV Engineering, Rogers Broadcasting Limited. “Loyalist is already well-known for the Media Studies professionals it produces in our competitive industry, so this campaign will help the College to further build momentum.”

The School of Media Studies offers: 3D Video Production, Advertising and Marketing Communications, Animation, Art and Design Foundations, Broadcast Engineering Technology, Graphic Design, Journalism – Online, Print and Broadcast, Media Experience, Photojournalism, Public Relations, Radio Broadcasting, Sports Journalism, and Television and New Media Production.
