Loyalist College is inviting all former varsity basketball and volleyball players who wore the Lancer jersey to return once more to the College court. The Alumni Games will be held on Saturday, September 26th. Players are encouraged to bring their family and friends, and to invite former teammates and classmates to join the fun.
Socheath Keo graduated from the Social Service Worker Accelerated Program in 2007 and she is looking forward to returning to campus on the 26th. “Playing varsity volleyball at Loyalist helped me become a better player and leader, and I formed many great friendships through the experience. I haven’t been playing much volleyball since I graduated because as you know when you enter the working world there isn’t a lot of spare time. I do find time to work out and I’m happy that I’m able to stay active whether it’s going to the gym or playing volleyball. I can’t wait to see everyone at the Alumni Games.”
“I didn’t know anyone when I arrived at Loyalist,” said Terry Coe, a graduate of the Architectural Technician and Technology programs who played men’s basketball for four years and in his final season was a member of the team that captured the Division II regular season title and a bronze medal at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Championship. “The time that I spent at Loyalist had a positive impact on my life both academically and socially, and led to deep friendships that are still active today. I feel a strong allegiance to the College and value the chance to return, see the guys and run up and down the court.”
“The thought of having all these athletes at the College together, many of whom have not been back for years, is really exciting,” said Jim Buck, Manager of Athletics and Campus Recreation. “This day is meant to be more than our former Lancers heading out on the court again. It’s an opportunity for past players, coaches, family and fans to renew friendships, share some laughs and see the growth and change the College has experienced during the past few years.”
The women’s volleyball game will be held at 12:00 noon followed by the men at 1:00 p.m. Basketball is next on the schedule with the women’s game at 2:15 and the men at 3:15.
