Loyalist College Introduces Post-Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management

July 19, 2012

Belleville, Ontario, July 19, 2012 – Loyalist College is pleased to announce a two-semester Post-Graduate Human Resources Management program for an Ontario College Graduate Certificate, starting September 2013. The new program will prepare students for various human resources positions, which are in demand as the workforce responds to shifting generational groups. Using new curriculum and hands-on training, the program will teach students how to create and implement innovative strategies for attracting, developing and retaining highly skilled employees.

“We are very excited to be able to offer the Human Resources Management Certificate,” said Loyalist College President Maureen Piercy. “In the next decade, HR professionals will play an increasingly important role, working with business leaders to build the skilled workforce that is so essential to Canada’s future economic growth. With the addition of this program, the College will offer six Post-Graduate Certificates, expanding the range of opportunities to enhance students’ career options.”

Loyalist has received program approval from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) will accredit all of the courses in the new program, which will be considered a stepping-stone to the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation. A four-week internship will provide invaluable industry experience and the foundation for a professional network.

“This program was brought forward for discussion to the Quinte HRPA Board of Directors and we offered support to Loyalist College in this endeavor,” said HRPA Quinte Chapter President Nadine Langlois. “We are pleased that the Quinte region will now have its own Human Resources Management program. There continue to be increased opportunities in the area for graduates, ranging from human resources generalist to specialist, or private consultant. As businesses become more competitive and legislative changes become more complex, the demand for HR professionals continues to rise.”

Applicants who have earned a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution are encouraged to apply. The College will also consider applicants who have significant work-related experience, based on a review of their demonstrated competencies and academic credentials. The Human Resources Management program at Loyalist will teach effective communication, strategic thinking and analytical comprehension.

It will prepare students for careers such as:
