Loyalist College Foundation Holds Annual Meeting

June 02, 2014

At the Annual Meeting of The Loyalist College Foundation held May 28th, members learned that the endowed fund for student support had reached $8.820 Million at March 31, 2014. Bernie Ouellet was re-elected as Chair for the upcoming year and Susan Scarborough was re-elected as Vice-Chair.

Pat Dockrill, who is retiring as a Board of Governors Director, was thanked for her service to the Foundation during the past four years. Margaret Werkhoven was elected as a Community Director for a three-year term, replacing Mark Rashotte who has completed three terms with the Foundation.  Continuing as community representatives on the Board are Directors Kristin Crowe, Donna Gowthorpe, Catharine Huff, Mark Rollins and John Sherratt.  Current College Board of Governors representatives include Board Chair Tamara Kleinschmidt, Natalie Bohnen-Twiddy, and Stuart Wright.

Ex-officio Directors include College President, Maureen Piercy; Vice-President Corporate Services & Chief Financial Officer, Allan Ross; and Executive Director of College Advancement & External Relations, Dianne Spencer.

During the year, $474,745 was added to the Foundation Endowment Fund, bringing the Fund total to $8,820,671 at March 31, 2014.  Student support remains a key objective of the Foundation, and during the past year, 285 awards, with a total value of $123,494, were presented at Convocation and at Awards Ceremonies held in November and March.

College President Maureen Piercy praised the work of the Foundation and the generosity of donors in the support of students and the Capital Campaign for the Skills Centre. “The leadership of our Foundation Chair, Bernie Ouellet, and Honorary Chair, Wilf Wilkinson has been outstanding.  The support of the many donors, including municipalities, partners and organizations is critical to our students’ learning and is deeply appreciated.”

“We recognize the importance of community support for Loyalist College,” said Chair Ouellet. “For example, a generous donation of $25,000 was received from the John M. & Bernice Parrott Foundation, adding to the John M. & Bernice Parrott endowment fund, which provides financial assistance for students.  This brings the total in this endowed fund to $671,000. Since Mr. and Mrs. Parrott established the fund in the early 1990s, 106 students have received awards.  This is truly outstanding.”
