Loyalist College Foundation Holds Annual Meeting

June 03, 2013

At the Annual Meeting of The Loyalist College Foundation held May 29th, members learned that the endowed fund for student support had reached $8.346 Million at March 31, 2013.   Foundation Vice-Chair Bernie Ouellet was elected as Chair for the upcoming year and Susan Scarborough was elected as Vice-Chair.

In recognition of their outstanding work with the Foundation, outgoing Chair Beverley Townsend and former Honorary Chair Hugh P. O’Neil were appointed as Honorary Directors. Wilfrid J. Wilkinson was appointed Honorary Chair of the Foundation in appreciation of his ongoing leadership and support of Loyalist, most recently as co-chair of the College Capital Campaign.

Rick Belanger, who is retiring from the Board after two terms, was thanked for his service to the Foundation during the past six years. Continuing as community representatives on the Board are Directors Kristin Crowe, Donna Gowthorpe, Catharine Huff, Mark Rashotte, Mark Rollins and John Sherratt.  Natalie Bohnen-Twiddy, Pat Dockrill, Margaret Werkhoven, and Stuart Wright represent the College Board of Governors on the Foundation Board.

Ex-officio Directors include College President, Maureen Piercy; Vice-President Corporate Services & Chief Financial Officer, Allan Ross; and Executive Director of College Advancement & External Relations, Dianne Spencer.

Overall, $206,447 from donations and golf tournament revenue was directed to the Foundation Endowment Fund.  During the year, 270 awards with a total value of $135,673 were presented at various award ceremonies.  In addition, 93 students received expendable awards totaling $39,703 through the Awards office.

A generous bequest from the Estate of James E. Marker was received during the year, establishing an endowed fund totaling $100,000. The fund will provide financial assistance to students in the Practical Nursing, Personal Support Worker or Automotive programs, and will benefit countless individuals throughout the future.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks to Loyalist College donors and friends for their ongoing support,” said Loyalist College President Maureen Piercy. “As our endowment funds grow, we are able to support more students with financial assistance.  Loyalist is committed to helping provide access to post-secondary education, for all students, as they seek rewarding careers.”
