Loyalist College Celebrates Graduates’ Success at the Second of Four Convocation Ceremonies

President and CEO of Colleges and Institutes Canada Denise Amyot Addresses Graduates from the Schools of Biosciences, Building Sciences and Justice Studies

Belleville, Ontario, June 5, 2014 – On the afternoon of June 5th at Loyalist College’s 47th Annual Convocation Ceremony, 311 graduating students in the Schools of Biosciences, Building Sciences and Justice Studies were recognized with advanced diplomas, diplomas and certificates. The ceremony was the second of four, recognizing a total of 2,070 Loyalist graduates.

The Convocation address was delivered by guest speaker Denise Amyot, President and CEO of Colleges and Institutes Canada, the national and international voice for 95 percent of Canada’s publicly funded colleges, institutes and polytechnics, serving 1.5 million learners of all ages and backgrounds in 1,000 campuses across the country. She has had a distinguished career in public service with the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation, Canada Public Service Agency (now the Treasury Board), Human Resources Development Canada, National Defence, Natural Resources Canada, Canadian Heritage and the Public Service Commission. Dedicated to strong values-based leadership in public service, Ms. Amyot is a sought-after speaker at both the national and international levels.

“With a background in sciences and justice studies, the world is open for you,” said Ms. Amyot during her speech to graduates. “Without each of you, the world would not be the same, and this responsibility needs to be taken seriously because today and in the years ahead you can make a difference.  This is what your time at Loyalist College was all about, ensuring you have the skills to change and adapt, think and grow, succeed and improve.”

In recognition of her outstanding business leadership and career advocacy in the public and private sectors, Ms. Amyot was presented with an Honorary Diploma in Applied Arts and Technology.
