Loyalist College Business Graduate Receives Provincial Award

February 10, 2011

Loyalist College graduate, Cindy Gervais, has received provincial recognition from the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) as the recipient of the 2010 HRPA Outstanding Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) Award. The HRPA regulates the Human Resources (HR) profession in Ontario and issues the CHRP designation, the national standard for excellence in human resources management. The award recognizes a HRPA member who received the CHRP designation in 2009 and has made a significant contribution to their place of employment. Volunteer activities within the community and involvement at the chapter or provincial level of the organization are also factors in the selection process.

Cindy is the Human Resources Coordinator at PolyCello in Belleville. As a student at Loyalist, she was noted for her leadership skills. Cindy graduated from Loyalist’s Business program in 2005, and subsequently earned diplomas in the Business Administration, Business Administration – Human Resource Management, and Business Administration – Materials Management programs in 2006. In 2008, she completed the Human Resources Management Certificate program. Professor Bob Millard described her as an individual with a high degree of integrity, responsibility and ambition. “Since graduating, Cindy has continued to be an invaluable resource to the College. She is an active member of the Advisory Committee for the Business Administration program and has provided excellent experiential learning opportunities for our students at PolyCello. Cindy is an outstanding individual and this recognition is well deserved.”

“I am very honoured to have received this prestigious award,” said Cindy Gervais. “The Business Administration program at Loyalist College equipped me with the required skills and knowledge for my career in Human Resources and assisted me greatly in achieving this recognition. I would like to thank Loyalist College and the Quinte Chapter of HRPA for all of their support throughout this process.”

“Cindy is unique in her effectiveness in managing business needs in combination with an approachable and engaging personality that meets the needs of our employees,” said Daniel Kralemann, Operations Manager at PolyCello. “Her leadership in further developing and establishing a solid base of policy, procedures, orientation, and job descriptions has led to a double-digit improvement in retention and we have doubled our employee training hours. PolyCello has experienced four consecutive years of growth. Cindy is an invaluable member of the team that made that happen.  We are very proud of her.”
