Loyalist College Board of Governors Welcomes New Members

Belleville, Ontario, September 13, 2012 – At the September 13th meeting of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, Chair Stuart Wright introduced new Governors Natalie Bohnen-Twiddy, Ross Danaher, Gary Dyke, June Hagerman and David Pickett. 

Natalie Bohnen-Twiddy will serve as a member of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee for the upcoming year. Mrs. Bohnen-Twiddy retired in 2000 after a 32-year career in education. She began her career as a secondary school teacher with the North York Board of Education and went on to be a program consultant, vice-principal, principal and superintendent for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. Mrs. Bohnen-Twiddy also served as superintendent with the Northumberland-Clarington and Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board in Peterborough for eight years. Following her retirement, she shared her expertise as a student-teacher supervisor at the Potsdam campus of the State University of New York. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto and earned a Masters of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. She has served as a member of the Loyalist College Foundation Board for the past two years.

Ross Danaher has been elected to represent the Administrative staff at the College. For 2012-2013 he will serve as a member of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee. Mr. Danaher is Director, Library and Research Services at Loyalist. He joined the College in 2004 as the Director of Library Services. When the Research Services Office was established in 2011, his responsibilities expanded to include Research Services. Prior to joining Loyalist, Mr. Danaher worked as Branch Head at the Napanee Library, Research Librarian at Blakes, Cassels and Graydon LLP, Records Analyst at Torys LLP, and Records Management at Purolator Inc. He holds a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree from Laurentian University. Mr. Danaher has been an active member of College Council since September 2005. 

Gary Dyke will serve as a member of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee and as a member of the Board By-Laws and Policies Committee for the coming year. Mr. Dyke is currently the Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Quinte West where he has worked for 14 years in progressively senior roles such as Manager of Corporate & Economic Development and City Clerk. Prior to joining Quinte West, he was Secretary-Treasurer at Quinte East-Northumberland Planning Agency, Manager of Planning Services at Van Meer Limited, and Area Planner with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in Toronto. Mr. Dyke earned a Bachelor Degree in Geography from the University of Waterloo. He has completed both the Governance Program for Boards of Municipal, Provincial and Federal Agencies, and Not-For-Profit Organizations from Queen’s University, and LEAN Thinking for the Public Sector from Loyalist College. He currently serves as Chair of the Hastings County Joint Provincial Offences Committee, and Secretary/Lead CAO, Eastern Ontario Mayor’s Committee. He is also a member of the Ontario Municipal Administrator’s Association. 

June Hagerman will serve as a member of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee for 2012-2013. Ms. Hagerman retired from the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board in 2007, after a 31-year career in education. She worked in the secondary school system as a special education teacher and resource teacher, interdepartmental special education head, secondary school vice-principal, and system-wide special education coordinator. Following her retirement, she continued in an occasional role with the HPEDSB, preparing funding applications to the Ministry, interviewing teacher candidates and delivering behaviour management workshops. Ms. Hagerman holds an Honours Bachelor of Physical and Health Education degree and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. 

David Pickett has been elected as the Student Representative to the Board. For the upcoming year, he will serve as a member of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee and as a member of the College Council. A graduate of St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School, Mr. Pickett is currently completing his final year of the three-year Business Administration program. He plans to finish with a diploma in Supply Chain Management. He balances academic responsibilities with part-time employment and volunteer work as President of Loyalist’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) program. He is a skilled musician, having played the violin for 20 years. 

The Board of Governors includes 12 community members, the College President, and four elected members representing the students, faculty, support staff and administration of the College.
