LOYALIST COLLEGE BOARD ELECTS OFFICERS FOR 2016-17

Belleville, Ontario, June 17, 2016 – At the June 16th meeting of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, the election of officers for the upcoming year took place. June Hagerman will continue in the Chair for 2016-17, for the term beginning September 1. Sandra Maracle and David Hatch will continue as Vice-Chairs for the coming year, and Brian Smith will serve as Past Chair of the Board.  Committees will be chaired by Governors Natalie Bohnen-Twiddy and Tim Farrell.

June Hagerman was appointed to the Board in 2012. Ms. Hagerman retired from the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board in 2007 after a 31-year career in education in the secondary school panel, as a teacher, a special education resource teacher, interdepartmental special education head, and secondary school vice-principal. She also served as a system-wide Special Education Coordinator. Ms. Hagerman has continued in an occasional role with the Board in administrative roles, interviewing teacher candidates and delivering behaviour management workshops. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto, and holds an Honours Bachelor of Physical and Health Education and a Bachelor of Education degree. Ms. Hagerman served as a member of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee for 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 and as Chair of the Committee in 2014-2015, before being elected as Chair in 2015.

Sandra Maracle was appointed to the Board in 2013 and has served as a member of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee since that time. Ms. Maracle has 25 years of experience in education having served the roles of Post-Secondary Education Assistant and Post-Secondary Education Program Manager with the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.  Ms. Maracle works directly with students providing career and personal counselling, ensuring student success in their chosen field of study. She assists in the development and delivery of specialized Native programming; and manages the Post-Secondary Education Program budget. She is responsible for liaising with funding and support service agencies and with various colleges and universities, and represents the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte on educational advisory committees. Ms. Maracle is a graduate of the Social Services Worker program at Loyalist College.   

David Hatch was appointed to the Board in January 2014. He is Executive Producer at WhistleStop Productions Inc., a full service broadcast television production company located in Prince Edward County. Mr. Hatch has more than 30 years of experience in the Canadian broadcasting industry, beginning his career in 1981 in Toronto as an audio engineer for the multilingual station CFMT Channel 47. Later he helped TSN’s operations department launch TSN – The Sports Network in 1984. He also spent four years in Toronto as a producer and daily news reporter with Global Television Network before becoming an independent producer working primarily in sports, lifestyle and documentary with the creation of WhistleStop Productions Inc. He has taught in the Broadcasting programs at both Loyalist College and Algonquin College, and has served on the Advisory Committee for the Broadcast Engineering Technology program. Mr. Hatch is a graduate of the Radio and Television Arts program at Seneca College. Mr. Hatch served as a member of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015.   

Chairs of the Standing Committees of the Board were also elected for the coming year. Natalie Bohnen-Twiddy will serve as Chair of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee, and Tim Farrell will chair the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee. Governor Mary Lynn Rutledge was recognized for her excellent work chairing the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee for the past two years.
