Loyalist College Board Elects Chair and Vice-Chairs

Belleville, Ontario, June 12, 2014 – At the June 12th meeting of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, Brian Smith was elected Chair for 2014-15, for the term beginning September 1, 2014. Scott Williams and Bruce McLeod were elected Vice-Chairs for the coming year, and Tamara Kleinschmidt will serve as Past Chair of the Board.

Brian Smith was appointed to the Board in 2009 and re-appointed in 2012 for a second three-year term. Mr. Smith has served as Chair of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, as a member of the Audit Committee and of the Board By-Laws and Policies Committee. He has more than 35 years’ experience in administration, long-term care, and financial management in the field of community health services. Mr. Smith served as a Councillor for the City of Belleville from 1992 – 2006. He currently holds the position of Director, Emergency and Long Term Care Services in Napanee for the County of Lennox and Addington. Prior to this he was a Program Supervisor with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. He is Past-Chair of the Quinte Health Care Board of Directors and a canvasser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He has extensive involvement in fundraising and volunteering. Mr. Smith is a graduate of the Business Administration Program at Loyalist College.

Scott Williams was appointed to the Board in 2009 and re-appointed in 2012 for a second three-year term. In 2013-2014, Mr. Williams has served as Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors and as a member of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, the Executive Committee and the Audit Committee. Mr. Williams has more than 28 years industry experience in providing custom training solutions to organizations from Government to the private sector. He currently holds the position of President, Global Knowledge Canada where he has overall responsibility for products, thought leadership and quality. He holds a B.Sc. from Queen’s University and a Master of Education from the University of Toronto. While at Queen’s University, he was involved with many different campus organizations including Faculty Board and Senate, Arts and Science Undergraduate Society, and the Alma Mater Society. From 1992-1994 he was a member of the East York Public Library Board, and he has extensive involvement in church groups and charity fundraising.

Bruce McLeod was appointed to the Board in 2010 and re-appointed in 2013 for a second three-year term. In 2013-2014 Mr. McLeod has served as Chair of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee, as a member of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, the Executive Committee and the Audit Committee. In 2013, Mr. McLeod started his own company, Live Big Coaching, providing executive coaching and business mentoring services internationally. Prior to launching this new venture, Mr. McLeod was Vice-President, Human Resources with Bioniche Life Sciences with responsibility for full Human Resources delivery for offices in Canada, U.S. and Australia. He has more than 15 years of senior management experience in operations and human resources, and has taught at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology. Mr. McLeod’s experience includes the positions of Director, Lending Operations with Farm Credit Canada in Listowel, ON, and Brandon, MB, and Director, Performance Consulting and Total Rewards in Regina, SK. He has earned a B.A. from Carleton University and a Certificate in Adult Education from Saint Francis Xavier University. He holds his Certified Executive Coach credentials from Royal Roads University and his Professional Certified Coach credentials from the International Coach Federation. He is currently completing an M.A. through Ambrose University, Alberta.

Chairs of the Standing Committees of the Board were also elected for the coming year. Mary Lynn Rutledge will chair the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, and June Hagerman will serve as Chair of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee.
