Belleville, Ontario, June 17, 2013 – At the June 13th meeting of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, Tamara Kleinschmidt was elected Chair for 2013-14, for the term beginning September 1, 2013. Scott Williams and Colin Hughes were elected Vice-Chairs for the coming year, and Stuart Wright will serve as Past Chair of the Board.
Tamara Kleinschmidt was appointed to the Board in 2009. During the past two years she served as Chair of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, a member of the Executive Committee, and the Audit Committee. Ms. Kleinschmidt holds a Bachelor of Arts/Political Science from the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston. She also holds an Emergency Medical Care Assistant Certificate from the Ambulance and Emergency Care Program, Algonquin College. She is a former Executive Committee member of the Military Families Fund which supports Military Families with unforeseen and immediate needs as a result of the military lifestyle. A past Co-Chair of the Military Family National Advisory Board, Ms. Kleinschmidt has also chaired the Board of Directors, Trenton Military Family Resource Centre, and the Board of Directors, Ottawa Military Family Resource Centre. Ms. Kleinschmidt is currently Executive Director of the HUB Child and Family Centre in Prince Edward County.
Scott Williams was appointed to the Board of Governors in 2009, and has served as Chair of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee for the past two years. He holds a B.Sc. (Honours) degree from Queen’s University, and a Masters of Education degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Mr. Williams is President of Global Knowledge Canada, and previously served as VP Product Management for the company. He is a published author of books, articles and white papers on adult education and technology topics, and has been a guest speaker at industry events throughout North America.
Colin Hughes was appointed to the Board in 2008. He has served as Audit Committee Chair and as Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors. He is employed at R.C. Industrial Services Napanee as General Machinist/Health and Safety Coordinator, with 31 years of experience in this field. As a Certified Health and Safety representative, Mr. Hughes has co-chaired Health and Safety Committees for over 21 years, developing safety training programs, and teaching Health and Safety awareness to employees. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Quinte West for ten years where his experience and knowledge as a health and safety professional was utilized to train new recruits.
Chairs of the Standing Committees of the Board were also elected for the coming year. Brian Smith will chair the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, and Bruce McLeod will serve as Chair of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee.
