Loyalist College Board Elects Chair and Vice-Chairs

Belleville, Ontario, June 18, 2012 – At the June 14th meeting of the Loyalist College Board of Governors, Stuart Wright was re-elected Chair for 2012-13, for the term beginning September 1, 2012. Colin Hughes and Bruce McLeod were elected Vice-Chairs for the coming year, and Margaret Werkhoven will serve as Past Chair of the Board.

Stuart Wright was appointed to the Board in 2008. Prior to his election as Chair of the Board of Governors, he served as Chair of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee, and was a member of the Executive Committee and the Audit Committee.  He has been a Director of the Loyalist College Foundation since 2008. Mr. Wright has more than 30 years experience in telecommunications with Bell Canada covering a wide range of activities, both domestically and internationally, in sales and marketing.  He worked in Saudi Arabia seconded to Saudi Telecoms where he interfaced with the military and security agencies regarding their voice and data communication needs and later for Bell Canada International (BCI) in a new business development role in the Gulf region of the Middle East.  He then spent two years in Malaysia where he established a joint venture between Telekom Malaysia and BCI designed to sell, develop and support computer applications for the telecom industry before returning to Canada to take up a senior role at Bell.  Mr. Wright is a member of the Rotary Club of Quinte Sunrise, and is a Paul Harris Fellow.  He has served as a Director on the Board of the Air Force Museum of Canada and as a Trustee on its Foundation.  

Colin Hughes was appointed to the Board in 2008.  He has served as Audit Committee Chair and as Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors. He is employed at R.C. Industrial Services Napanee as General Machinist/Health and Safety Coordinator, with 31 years experience in this field.  As a Certified Health and Safety Representative, Mr. Hughes has co-chaired Health and Safety Committees for over 21 years, developing safety training programs, and teaching Health and Safety awareness to employees.  He served as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Quinte West for ten years where his experience and knowledge as a health and safety professional was utilized to train new recruits.

Bruce McLeod was appointed to the Board in 2010.  Mr. McLeod is Vice-President, Human Resources with Bioniche Life Sciences with responsibility for full Human Resources delivery for offices in Canada, the United States, and Australia.  He has 16 years of senior management experience in operations and Human Resources.  He also has teaching experience as an instructor for seven years at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology.  Before joining Bioniche, Mr. McLeod was employed with Farm Credit Canada where he held the positions of Director, Lending Operations in Listowel, Ontario, and Director, Performance Consulting and Total Rewards in Regina, Saskatchewan.  Mr. McLeod holds a B.A. from Carleton University and a Certificate in Adult Education from Saint Francis Xavier University.  He holds a graduate certificate in Executive Coaching from Royal Roads University and Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credential with the International Coach Federation (ICF). He is currently completing an M.A. through Ambrose University, Alberta.  

Chairs of the Standing Committees of the Board were also elected for the coming year. They include Tamara Kleinschmidt as Chair of Finance, Corporate Services and Governance, and Scott Williams as Chair of the Academic, Student Affairs and Advocacy Committee.
