Loyalist College Bancroft Campus Graduation Ceremony

October 07, 2013

Bancroft, Ontario, October 7, 2013
– At the 14th Annual Bancroft Campus Graduation Ceremony on October 3rd, Loyalist College proudly awarded 86 diplomas and certificates to 80 graduates in recognition of their academic accomplishments.

The valedictorian address was delivered by Courtney Maracle, a Personal Support Worker from Campbellford, with an introduction by Jim Whiteway, Dean, Bancroft Campus.

“I loved the Personal Support Worker program and I’m so thankful that Loyalist offers it at off-site campuses,” said Courtney. “I worked full-time while attending school and would never have been able to do that if I was driving to another location to attend college. The instructors are amazing and their support is phenomenal. I’m already working at Hastings Manor in Belleville and Burnbrae Gardens in Campbellford. I am so glad I have chosen this career path.”

During the ceremony, the following post-secondary credentials were presented:

  • Ontario College Diplomas in Office Administration – Medical and Office Administration – Medical Transcription
  • Ontario College Certificates in Food Service Worker, Office Administration and Personal Support Worker
  • Loyalist College Certificates in Correctional Services Worker, Graphic Design – Software Applications, Health Records Clerk, Legal Office Assistant, Office Assistant, and Small Business Bookkeeping

The Herbert L. Esford Award recognizing outstanding compassionate care and empathy was presented to Personal Support Worker graduate Kim Avery.

“Kim not only demonstrated outstanding compassionate care and empathy to clients while in training in the community, but was also commended by clients, their families, and her preceptor,” wrote Personal Support Worker Instructor Marilyn Plunkett in her nomination letter. “They described Kim as a spiritual inspiration to their health and well-being.  Clients’ family members commented on how their loved ones were uplifted during the time they spent with Kim and were hopeful they would have her as a support worker.”

The Vance Motors Business Management Award was presented to Cathy Watson, Small Business Bookkeeping.

Loyalist College President Maureen Piercy congratulated the graduates. “I know your decision to continue your learning experience was most likely motivated by personal reasons – to enhance your life, and that of your family. However, it is important to remember that your new skills and credentials will also enrich the organizations for which you work, your patients and clients, and your communities. You are adding to the quality of life for all of us.”
