Loyalist College Appoints Jim Whiteway as Dean

Belleville, Ontario, July 23, 2013 – Loyalist College is pleased to announce Jim Whiteway as the Dean of Business, Bancroft Campus, Continuing Education, Corporate Training and Employment Ontario, effective August 26, 2013.

Jim brings a wealth of relevant experience to his new position, including 15 years at Loyalist in various roles such as teaching, operations and facilities Coordinator, Chair of Business, Biosciences and Justice Studies, and most recently as Acting Dean of Applied Skilled Trades and Technology. 

His educational background includes a Masters of Arts in Education, Canadian College Concentration, from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Ryerson University. He also holds a Bachelor of Hamburgerology from Hamburger University, McDonald’s Center of Training Excellence in Oak Brook, Illinois. 

Jim has extensive administrative experience within Loyalist and has a thorough knowledge of the Ontario College system, having served as the President of the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association. During a secondment to the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities, he led the standards review and development for Ontario College Diploma programs in Accounting and Finance. 

As Acting Dean of Applied Skilled Trades and Technology, he provided outstanding leadership to students, staff and faculty. During this time, Jim represented Loyalist at Colleges Ontario’s Heads of Hospitality & Tourism, Heads of Apprenticeship Training, Heads of Technology, Heads of Interdisciplinary Studies, and as a member of the Council of Communications at Community Colleges. He has also represented Loyalist on the Board of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce. Currently, he is involved with a national committee addressing opportunities for Canadian colleges to assist military retirees in transitioning to the civilian workforce. 

“I have thoroughly enjoyed leading the wonderful Applied Skilled Trades and Technology team at Loyalist this year, and while I will miss being directly involved in their future successes, I am looking forward to returning to the School of Business,” said Jim. “I am eager to start working with the Business, Continuing Education and Corporate Training groups to support their current initiatives and help them continue to strengthen their programs’ reputations for excellence.”
