CBC Airs Documentary on Youth Unemployment in Canada

February 05, 2013

Last week, the CBC aired a documentary called Generation Jobless, which explores why so many young Canadians are overeducated and underemployed. According to the report, approximately one in three 25 to 29 year olds with a degree ends up in a low-skilled job. While Canada is currently in the midst of a massive labour shortage, young people don’t have the skills required for the jobs.

There is a need for training that links directly with employment. That’s why 57 percent of students are now opting to attend college over university. According to Colleges Ontario, Ontario college enrolment increased by 11 percent in 2010.
