Business Partnerships Announced

June 29, 2011

At a news conference held in the College’s Link Lounge on Friday, June 24, it was announced that three small businesses will work with Loyalist College to develop new technologies, help conduct research, and bring ideas to market, thanks to an investment from the Federal Economic Development Agency (FedDev) for Southern Ontario.

FedDev’s Applied Research and Commercialization (ARC) Initiative is designed to bridge the gap between research and commercialization between Ontario’s post-secondary academic institutions and small- and medium-sized enterprises.

“Loyalist College is delighted to support small-and medium-sized enterprises by linking them to our faculty, students and programs,” said Maureen Piercy, President, Loyalist College.  “FedDev Ontario’s ARC initiative is a great way to support prosperity and the way we can contribute is to help our business and industry partners with applied research to support innovation and productivity improvements.”

Through the ARC initiative, Loyalist College is partnering with the following three businesses:

Turtle Island Recycling Corporation

The first of those partnerships is a project with Turtle Island Recycling, Ontario’s largest multi material recycling company.  Loyalist College will undertake product and process research, technology development, product testing and piloting and demonstration.

N2 Towers Incorporated

A second partnership is being undertaken with N2 Towers Incorporated of Belleville, manufacturers of a 100% environmentally-friendly, nitrogen generating, clean agent fire/explosion suppression system. Working in conjunction with N2 Towers, Loyalist College will undertake product testing, UL and ULC certification, proof of concept, and piloting and demonstration.

Bioniche Life Sciences Incorporated

The third partnership is with Bioniche Life Sciences Incorporated, a research-based, technology-driven Canadian biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, manufactures, and markets proprietary products for human and animal health markets worldwide. The collaboration involves conducting pre-commercialization activities with a view to commercializing a new Bioniche product.
