Automotive Program at Loyalist Celebrates 40 Years of Excellence

September 16, 2008

Saturday, September 20

The Loyalist College Automotive program is celebrating its 40th anniversary on Saturday, September 20 from 11:00 until 6:30 p.m. The community is invited to attend the festivities being held in the automotive shop on the main campus at Wallbridge-Loyalist Road. Included in the celebration is a Show and Shine Event. Guests are invited to bring their cars, trucks or bikes and put them on display for others to enjoy.

The automotive trade has gone through many changes in the past 40 years. This event is a great opportunity for the faculty and students who have been a part of the Loyalist Automotive program to return, reminisce and see the direction the program is now taking. Those attending can purchase tickets for a wide range of prizes including clothing and vehicle maintenance. The winning tickets will be drawn at 3:45. A barbeque will be on site for those who wish to purchase something to eat while viewing the show.

“We are pleased to highlight the Automotive program this weekend and to have an opportunity to reflect on the many changes in the industry,” said President Maureen Piercy.  “Our programs have produced many technicians and small business owners across Eastern Ontario through attracting students from across our region to these excellent programs. The programs have also benefitted from a series of very active and involved Advisory Committees from industry. This is the final event in our celebration of 40 years, and it is very fitting to acknowledge one of the very first programs offered by Loyalist.”

“The strength of the Loyalist College Automotive program has continued to grow over the past 40 years through the commitment of the faculty, advisory committee and students,” said Professor Brian Scharf. “The ongoing contact that our graduates maintain with the College is one of our greatest rewards. Their success and personal satisfaction in this career path motivates us to ensure our program is relevant in the ever-changing automotive industry. We encourage members of the community to join us on Saturday. The Show and Shine event will make it possible for all automotive lovers to meet and share their stories.”
