Alumni Association Presents Awards and Elects New Executive

The evening of November 26th was one of great celebration and pride for the Loyalist College Alumni Association as graduates gathered for a special evening that included a campus tour, a dinner, presentation of awards, and the Association’s Annual General Meeting.

 

College President, Maureen Piercy and Alumni Association President, Brian Miller, presented Alumni Distinction Awards to Loyalist graduates: Charles Beale (Communication Arts, 1970), retired teacher, teaching consultant, vice-principal, and published author; Wayne Long (Recreation and Leisure Services, 1995), Events Development Officer, City of Charlottetown, P.E.I.; and, Scott Simms (Broadcast Journalism, 1993), Member of Parliament, Newfoundland & Labrador. The three were presented with their awards in honour of the contributions they have made to their respective communities and the success they’ve achieved in their chosen fields. The 2010 Loyalist nominees for the Premier’s Award for Ontario College Graduates were also recognized at the event, including: Business, Karen Sharp-Perry; Community Services, Brenda Whitehead; Creative Arts & Design, Edman Yiu; Recent Graduate, Lisa Kirbie; and, Technology, Vern Haggerty. The Alumni Association was proud to congratulate all nominees, and Premier’s Award winner, Mandy Bonisteel (Nursing, 1978).   On November 22nd, Mandy was presented with the 2010 Premier’s Award in the Health Sciences category. At the AGM, which followed the dinner and awards presentation, outgoing President, Brian Miller, thanked all who had contributed to a successful term as he reflected back over the past two years. “I’m pleased to say I’ve had an enjoyable and educational experience as President of the Loyalist Alumni Association,” he said.  “Many new and exciting things have taken place at the College and I am very glad to have been a part of them.” 

 

The newly elected President, Rosemary Rooke (Paralegal, 2006; BAA Human Services Management, 2009; Social Service Worker, 2010), will remain in office for a two-year term. David Bunnett (Accounting, 1972), was elected as Vice-President.  The elected officers include: Chris Brown (Broadcast Journalism, 2008); Victor Cooper (Television and New Media Production, 2009); Bill MacKay (Radio, 1970); Peter Rooke (Business, 1973); Linda Serres (Small Business Office Automation, 2002); Dan Truman (Police Foundations, 2008; Public Relations, 2009), and Gabi Von Gans (Advertising, 1982).
