54th Annual Quinte Regional Science and Technology Fair

April 05, 2013

Loyalist Students Lead Interactive Biosciences Displays and Skills Centre Tours

On Saturday, April 6th Loyalist College will host the 54th Annual Quinte Regional Science and Technology Fair, one of the longest running such events in Canada. Local students from grades four through 10, representing different schools and boards, will present over 130 projects in competition for awards, prizes and scholarships.

To build excitement around career opportunities in the sciences and to raise awareness of how Loyalist is meeting labour market demands, the College is offering tours of its 121,800-square foot Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre. The student-guided tours will leave from the main entrance every half hour between 8:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., highlighting programs such as Biosciences, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, Motive Power, Construction Renovation and Welding and Fabrication.

In the cafeteria, Loyalist Biosciences students will present interactive science displays for both students and adults to enjoy. Visitors can enter a draw to win a $50 gift certificate for the College Bookstore, among other prizes.

“The Science and Technology Fair is an excellent opportunity for the public to explore their community College and see firsthand how demands for training in sciences and technology are being met by programs like those taught in our Skills Centre,” said Loyalist President Maureen Piercy. “Working with our expert faculty and staff in our ultra-modern labs and classrooms, our students are gaining the knowledge and experience employers need. It’s exciting to be able to host this annual event for the next generation of scientists and technologists.”
