Ryan Mallon, Social Service Worker
Ryan Mallon acted as class representative during his second year of the Social Service Worker program. In his final semester, Ryan participated in a work integrated learning opportunity during which he conducted research for the Intergenerational Homesharing Program, a pilot initiative that Loyalist College will launch in the coming year. Ryan participated in the production of an academic paper on this initiative that is awaiting publication. Outside of school, he volunteers with the 18^th Belleville Cub Scouts Canada. He has donated his time to various community food and meal programs, and ran an informal online drop-in meeting to help people feel connected during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ryan has obtained full-time employment with HelpSeeker Inc., where he uses the skills he gained in the Social Service Worker program to help communities map and plan their community resources to respond to a changing world.

Hardik Patel, Computer Systems Technician
Hardik Patel was Student Government Vice-President for the 2019-2020 academic year and has participated in many initiatives and activities at the College. Hardik managed the Student Government Loyalist Life social media channels, volunteered at Loyalist’s Open House and in the Wellness Loft, and organized a successful Indian flag raising event on campus. As a Residence Assistant, Hardik helped student residents move to hotels during the COVID-19 pandemic, promoting student well-being by assisting with meal deliveries, creating routine and sharing information. Hardik has received several awards during his time at Loyalist College, including the 2020 Loyalist College Student Leadership Award and the Pollitt Award. Hardik has also received recognition from the Bay of Quinte MP and MPP. 

Caleb Seguin, Photojournalism
Caleb Seguin hails from the Greater Toronto Area and uses photography to document the world around him. Caleb’s goal is to make photographs that draw viewers into the now and he is inspired by the moments we lose to memory. Caleb studied Digital Photography at Niagara College for two years, graduating at the top of his class. He then proceeded to further his skills in Loyalist’s Photojournalism program. At the College, Caleb was a varsity athlete, playing on the Men’s Volleyball team. He was named Captain in his second year and accumulated a number of OCAA awards during this season, including the All-Rookie Team and the OCAA National Scholar Award. For his hard work and dedication to the College, Caleb was awarded the Coaches Award and the Student Leadership Award. In addition, he also received the President’s Award, presented to him by Loyalist College President Ann Marie Vaughan. 

Taylor Wightman, Public Relations – Event Management
Taylor Wightman grew up in Belleville, Ontario and never expected Loyalist College to have such an impact on her life. While attending Loyalist, Taylor was a member of the Women’s Soccer team, making life-long friends among her teammates and coaches. Taylor was a staff member at the campus Fitness Centre, which gave her an opportunity to meet many new faces. She has had the opportunity to learn from amazing professors and faculty and in three short years has graduated from two programs at Loyalist, Customs Border Services and Public Relations – Event Management. Taylor would like to thank Loyalist for making her College experience one she will remember forever.

My time at Loyalist is one huge memory I will never forget. My top three memories are: walking through the doors of the Kente Building as a freshman in 2015, the first time I attended pub night, and giving college another chance in 2018 when I chose SSW as my program. Loyalist has always been a second home to me. Five years of walking those halls, and four different programs. I did not succeed at two of those programs, but I am finally graduating and I couldn’t be any prouder. I will miss Loyalist and am forever grateful for the faculty, the resources, and the students for helping me get this far.

My time at Loyalist College was a good experience for me. Why? Because you get to know how to adjust to college life and the real world. Secondly, I did placements like RHINO and the Quinte Wellness Center. I was part of the CICE group, with people who dont do acandmic courses in High School and students that have learning problems. Finally, in conclusion, I made a lot of friends at college and attended my courses. Fitness was my elective, and the other courses were CICE-related, including reading and math.
