President Maureen Piercy Reappointed to Board of Health

Reappointment of Loyalist College President Maureen Piercy to the Board of Health for the Hastings & Prince Edward Counties Health Unit


Belleville, Ontario, February 6, 2012
– At the Hastings & Prince Edward Counties Health Unit meeting on February 1, Board Chair Beth Campbell, announced the re-appointment of Loyalist College President Maureen Piercy to the Board of Health.

“Through an Order in Council, Mrs. Maureen Piercy has been re-appointed by the province to a second three-year term from November 16, 2011 to November 15, 2014,” said Beth Campbell. “We are delighted that she will be joining the board again.”

Mrs. Piercy was appointed the fourth President of Loyalist College in 2005. For more than 30 years, she has helped to shape Ontario community colleges, including serving as Vice-President Academic and other senior academic roles at Loyalist and Sheridan Colleges. Her background includes experience as a journalist and editor with Maclean’s Magazine. 

“I look forward to continuing the great work that is being done,” said Maureen Piercy. “With numerous important health services and programs available throughout our region, the Health Unit is integral to each of us and to the health and wellbeing of our community as a whole.”

The Hastings & Prince Edward Counties Health Unit serves Prince Edward County, Hastings County, Quinte West, and Belleville. It provides dozens of programs and services, along with health information to a population of approximately 150,000 people in a 7,000 square km area. The Health Unit’s mission is to enable the people within the area to achieve and maintain optimal health through health protection and promotion, as well as disease and injury prevention.
