LOYALIST COLLEGE ANNOUNCES GUEST SPEAKERS AND VALEDICTORIANS FOR 51ST CONVOCATION CEREMONIES

Belleville, Ontario, June 5, 2018 – Loyalist College is pleased to announce the speakers and valedictorians for its 51st Convocation ceremonies on Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8 in the Kente Building, Belleville campus. The four ceremonies recognize new graduates and celebrate their accomplishments with family and friends.

Thursday, June 7 – 10 am

Guest Speaker:
Peter MacKinnon was born in Montreal and raised in Prince Edward Island. He was educated at Dalhousie, Queen’s, University of Saskatchewan and at Osgoode Hall in Toronto where he was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ontario in 1975. Later admitted to practice in Saskatchewan as well, he began his academic legal career in 1975, becoming a full professor in 1983. He served as Dean of Law at University of Saskatchewan from 1988 – 1998 and as President from 1998 – 2012.

Guest Speaker:
David Pape, M.Sc., is a Project Management Consultant with more than 30 years of successful experience in strategic and project management consulting.  Mr. Pape is a Loyalist College graduate, having earned a diploma in the Social Service Worker program in 1971. He was Loyalist’s first Student Government President. Pape Management Consulting Services Inc. was established in 1987, and  is  a Canadian leader in the quest to improve team and organizational effectiveness through the creation and dissemination of new approaches to strategic and operational decision making.

Guest Speaker:
Ian Howcroft was named CEO of Skills Canada-Ontario in January 2018. He served on Skills Ontario’s board of directors for 16 years (1999 to 2015), including a two-year term as Board President. Prior to accepting the CEO position at Skills Ontario, Mr. Howcroft worked at Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters in various roles, starting in 1988 as their Employee Relations Policy Advisor and most recently heading their Provincial Operations & Corporate Counsel as Senior Vice-President.
