What are the different fees and costs you can expect as a college student?
- Tuition fees are charged to students to support the cost of academic program delivery and the general operations of the college.
- College ancillary fees are charged to students for support services and activities which are distinct from academic programming.
- Program ancillary fees (included supplies) are charged to students in specific programs, as applicable. These non-refundable fees cover program-specific activities and resources that are necessary for success in the program, such as co-op fees, equipment, learning materials, uniforms, and material used in the production of items that become the property of the student.
- Textbooks and recommended supplies are costs for resources which students purchase themselves. These costs can range from $500 to $2,500 per year.
- Non-refundable administrative fees are assessed for college services, such as:
- Credit transfer applications – fee varies based on application type and number of courses
- Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) – $117.33 per course
- Replacement credential request – $37.45
Full-time tuition and fee schedules
International tuition fee exception: To honour and uphold the rights contained within the Jay Treaty of 1794, which provides for the free passage of Indigenous citizens across the Canada-United States border, Indigenous students who reside in the United States will be assessed domestic tuition fees. This exception is part of Loyalist College’s commitment to supporting access to education for Indigenous people and to honour and advance the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action. Student status and fee implications
Tuition fees are assessed based on a student having a full-time or a part-time registration status. If a student drops a course during the refund period and their registration status remains full-time, the student will not receive a refund and may owe additional fees if when they pick up the course it moves them into an overload status. Please review the definitions below for more information.
- Full-time student status: To qualify as a full-time student, your course registrations must represent at least 70% of the billable hours of the courses required for the program semester in which you are enrolled. As a full-time student you will be assessed full-time tuition and fees. Review your program map to learn more about the courses included in your program of study each semester.
- Part-time student status: If your course registrations are below the minimum billable hours required to be designated as a full-time student in your program semester, you will be designated as a part-time student. As a part-time student you will be assessed tuition and fees based on an hourly rate per billable hour for your course load. Having a part-time student status can impact your academic progression, OSAP, access to health plans, varsity eligibility, and future immigration processes.
- Overload status: If you take a course load that is more than the 100% of the billable hours of the courses required for the program semester in which you are enrolled, you will be in an overload status. You may go into overload if you need to repeat a course or if you take courses out of sequence. You will be charged a tuition fee based on the number of additional billable hours. The rate is equivalent to the hourly part-time rate.
- Students with permanent disabilities: Students who require a reduced course load as an accommodation for a permanent, persistent, or prolonged disability, may be eligible for reduced tuition fees for the final courses needed to complete their academic program.
