Roles and responsibilities of a Board of Governors
The board of governors for a college is a governing board, not a management board. The board is responsible for defining the role and mission of the college and, thereby, setting the strategic directions for the college to achieve. The board of governors has responsibility for fiduciary oversight and institutional performance. All of its decision and policies are made for the best interest of the institution, not for particular constituents.
Recruitment of new Board members
Recruitment of prospective Board members is conducted as needed to fill upcoming vacancies on the Board. The Board of Governors provides the College with its vision, direction and financial management. They meet established goals and oversee educational programming, while providing the overall governance necessary to help the College thrive. Members are advocates for Loyalist.
To assist governors and anyone interested in serving on the Board with their key responsibilities as a governor, the Governors Resource Manual outlines the responsibilities for college boards of governors within Section 3.1.
