Belleville, Ontario, February 23, 2021 – Building on its legacy as a national leader in media studies for more than 50 years, Loyalist College has launched three leading-edge content creation programs:

“Streaming has unleashed unprecedented demands for new and niche content as individuals consume more media than ever before on a variety of platforms, such as Netflix, Apple TV, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and Crave,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, Loyalist College President and CEO. “With ongoing social distancing measures, appetite for original content continues to grow, spawning exciting new careers and entrepreneurial opportunities. To capitalize on the digital disruptions, our media students will harness emerging technologies and explore human experience platforms through hands-on learning and exciting field placements. They will pioneer the ever-evolving media industry, continuing the journey of award-winning alumni whose critically acclaimed videos, images, articles and podcasts have informed the ways in which we understand and respond to the issues of our time.”

The two new diploma programs share a common first year with the Photojournalism and Radio programs. They expand the College’s suite of several media industry-driven programs, including Animation & Game Development, Advertising & Marketing Communications – Creative Design, and Public Relations – Event Management. Applications are currently being accepted for September 2021.

“I strongly believe that the broad range of education offered at Loyalist College allows for building a very strong foundation,” said Loyalist alumna Jessica Pearce, Visual Effects Editor and Post Production Asset Manager for films such as Avengers: Endgame, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Episode VIII), Alita: Battle Angel, and TV series including The Mandalorian. “Whether you want to be in front, or behind the action – these programs offer you everything you need to make it in today’s ever-changing media industry. The programs and professors help you find your passion and calling. They work with you to make sure you are learning the necessary skills, tools, and techniques that can carry you forward into a successful career.”

Students will gain hands-on experiences in the College’s Digital Media Centre, an all-platform newsroom, featuring video editing suites, a television studio, interview booths, audio production booths and meeting rooms. In the common first year, students in the four diploma programs will learn alongside each other, gaining cross-platform content creation skills in audio, visual, digital, and print while learning how to succeed in industry or as entrepreneurs.
