Belleville, ON, Jan. 30, 2023 – Long considered a best-kept campus secret, The Market is Loyalist College’s one-stop shop for fresh bread, doughnuts, cookies, soups, pasta, prepared meals, preserves and more, made with care by Loyalist Culinary students and faculty. As part of the College’s ongoing campus upgrades and capital renovations, Loyalist unveiled a new retail location for The Market this month that puts students’ talent on full display for the Bay of Quinte community.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, students, staff and faculty were introduced to a more open, modern take on the beloved storefront.

“The Market embodies Loyalist’s integrated approach to hands-on experience – our students learn by doing,” said Mark Kirkpatrick, Acting President of Loyalist College. “Our new location provides a space where students can take pride in their hard work as they see their creations fly off the shelves. We look forward to welcoming the Bay of Quinte community into this beautiful new retail space.”

Each week, students and faculty of the Culinary Skills and Culinary Management programs line the shelves of The Market with freshly baked pastries, canned foods, and frozen take-home meals produced in-house in the College’s Culinary labs.

“When students graduate from Loyalist, they leave with the knowledge and confidence they need to succeed in the workforce,” said Kathleen Bazkur, Dean, School of Media, Business and Access at Loyalist College. “Our hands-on learning facilities like The Market and Resto 213 ensure that our students don’t just ‘feel’ ready to jump into their careers, but are ready, through hours of industry-relevant experience and work.”

The Market is located in room 2H22 at Loyalist College’s Belleville campus and is open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. every Thursday and Friday. Visit us on campus to learn why The Market’s goods are in the hearts, minds, and stomachs of its patrons!
