Pre-apprenticeship programs are provincially funded with the goal of training more skilled tradespeople in response to Ontario’s labour shortage of skilled workers.

Admission requirements
The majority of apprenticeship programs have a Grade 12 educational entrance requirement and the applicant must be 16 years of age or older to register. For specific trade requirements or Grade 12 equivalencies refer to the Skilled Trades Ontario website at www.skilledtradesontario.ca or call Skilled Trades Ontario toll-free at 1-855-299-0028.
Costs
Earn while you learn. You will receive a paycheque from your employer/sponsor for your on-the-job training. Minimal classroom and book fees apply to your in-class training. You may qualify for some incentive programs.
Loyalist College offers the following on-campus, in-person apprenticeship programs:
- Automotive Service Technician
- Food Process Operator (246T)
- Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A)
How to register for on-campus, in-person training
Step 1: Apply for an apprenticeship and sign a training agreement.
Step 2: Receive an Offer of Classroom Training letter from the Ministry.
Step 3: Submit the Apprenticeship Registration Form.*
Step 4: Receive an email with payment instructions.
Step 5: Pay your fees within five days of receiving the payment email. Payment can be made through online banking or by credit card through the Loyalist College Flywire online payment portal. If payment is not received within five days, your seat will be released, and you will not be registered.**
Step 6: Email apprenticereg@loyalistcollege.com once you’ve made payment. You will be registered three weeks before the start of the term.
*Registration is subject to seat availability. Students will be offered seats in the order that form submissions are received, until seats are full.
**Apprenticeship fees are included on the Offer of Classroom Training letter. If you withdraw from your courses within the first three days of classes, there is a $20 withdrawal admin fee per course. Visit Program Withdrawals for more information.

How to register for online training
Step 1: Apply for an apprenticeship and sign a training agreement.
Step 2: Receive an invitation from Loyalist College to register for courses.
Step 3: Review the list of required courses and the courses available for registration.
Step 4: Self-register* and pay for your courses.

*Registration is subject to seat availability. Students who self-register and are not eligible to register for courses will be withdrawn.

What’s more, upon completion of the programs below, you may be eligible for exemption of the in-school training portion for that respective trade.
