1. Policy Statement

The college endeavours to provide a safe and secure environment for those working in or using college facilities. The employees of the college also have an obligation to assist wherever possible in maintaining security on the campus. Unused rooms should be locked, and equipment when not in use, secured in locked rooms or cupboards.

2. Reporting of Incidents

Any incidents concerning security are to be reported to the Supervisor of Building Services or to a Security guard. The incident will be recorded on an Incident Report Form. Incident Reports shall be received by the Director of Plant for action as required.

3. Access to the College
  • 3.1 When College is Open, Normal Working Hours
    • 3.1.1 All VISITORS during these hours are required to sign in and out. A security guard is on duty to provide assistance and directions. The security guard must be informed of any special information regarding visitors. The guard has been instructed not to admit visitors to unauthorized areas.
    • 3.1.2 All STAFF MEMBERS must have access to their own work stations and area of work. This access will be through doors which are unlocked by College Security in accordance with a schedule prepared by the Supervisor of Facilities Services, or through doors unlocked by keys issued to the staff member or other person as delegated by the Supervisor.
  • 3.2 When College is Open, Weekends and Holidays
    • 3.2.1 Locking of Doors
      • When the College is open during weekends and holidays, access shall be through the Main Entrance to the Kente and Pioneer Buildings only. All other entrance doors shall be locked. It is required that all persons entering the building sign the Register Book in the main foyer.
    • 3.2.2 Student Access
      • Student access to academic areas during these hours must be authorized by use of the form “Permit to use Facilities” and must be presented to the security guard.
  • 3.3 When College is Closed
    • 3.3.1 Locking of Doors
      • During the hours when the College is closed, all exterior doors shall be locked.
    • 3.3.2 Access When College is Closed
      • Access to the College during these hours shall be restricted to: essential security and
        maintenance staff; authorized key holders of College GGM “keys” in accordance with Policy and Procedure PHY 102; during an emergency; or on pre-arranged basis such as a Special Event. All access during these hours shall be through the Main Entrances and by signing the Security Register Book at the Main Foyer.
4. Activities and Special Events

All Activities which use college physical facilities, including grounds and sports fields, are to be registered through the Supervisor of Facilities Services Office (Ext. 253). It will be the responsibility fo the Supervisor of Facilties Services to ensure that adequate security and traffic control is provided for events and activities reported.
