Program withdrawals

If you are unsure about continuing in your program, we are here to help. Please review the information below to understand the implications of withdrawing from your program and which departments to reach out to for support. Key dates related to refunds and academic penalties can be found on the Academic Calendar.

Program withdrawals

If you are thinking of withdrawing from your program, we want to make sure you have all the information you need and you understand the implications of this decision.

Failure to attend classes or notify a college employee, verbally or in writing, does not constitute a withdrawal. If you do not submit an official withdrawal request, you may incur financial obligations and academic penalties.

Pre-withdrawal advising

We are here to support your academic and personal success. The college has many supports and resources that might be able to help you continue in your program and reach your goals.

We strongly encourage you to reach out to the following services prior to submitting a withdrawal request so we can help you review your options, connect you with any supports you may need, and ensure you fully understand the implications of withdrawing from your program.

  • All students are strongly encouraged to meet with a student advisor. If you are having difficulty with your transition to college, or if you need academic or health and wellness related support, we have many services to assist you. Please email advising@loyalistcollege.com so we can support you.
  • You may also reach out to your program coordinator or a faculty member to discuss program fit and support options.
  • If you are a domestic student receiving OSAP or other government-sponsored bursaries and funding, please email finaid@loyalistcollege.com for advising related to withdrawals and funding implications.
  • If you are an international student, please email international@loyalistcollege.com for advising related to withdrawals and immigration and your status in Canada.

Submitting a program withdrawal request (International students):

International students enrolled in all post-secondary programs who no longer wish to start or continue their program must submit their program withdrawal request through the International Application Service (IAS) portal.

Withdrawal (and refund, if applicable) requests are processed directly on the IAS Portal, which your agent can assist you with. Once submitted, the team will review and process.

Step 1: Withdraw your acceptance
Log into your IAS portal, go to your Loyalist College offer, and under Offer Action select Withdraw Acceptance.

Step 2: Request a refund on the portal (if applicable)
Once you withdraw the acceptance, a window will pop up. Please enter the reason for withdrawal. Select “No” to a deferral and “Yes” for a refund if you are withdrawing during the refund period (up to Day 10), as highlighted below.

Step 3: Attach your refund request.
Once you click Continue, you will get to a refund request details page where you can upload the required supporting documentation:

  • Transfer/Unable to Attend – Letter of explanation and justification documents

If eligible for a refund, funds take approximately 4–6 weeks to arrive back in your account.
