Ontario provides $2.8 million to modernize postsecondary infrastructure at Loyalist College

March 04, 2022

BELLEVILLE – The Ontario government is investing $2.8 million in funding in 2021-2022 at Loyalist College to help provide a modern and safe learning environment for students, faculty, and staff, both on campus and virtually, announced Todd Smith, MPP for Bay of Quinte, and Daryl Kramp, MPP for Hastings-Lennox and Addington.

The funding will help Loyalist College to acquire lab equipment to support new and existing programming and applied research in health and food sciences, replace and upgrade equipment in the Health, Human and Justice Studies program on the Belleville campus used in courses such as nursing, massage therapy, paramedics and dementia studies, and to complete generator replacement and electrical upgrades.

“This support will ensure students at Loyalist College have access to modern instructional equipment to meet business and industry standards, increased participation in micro-credentials, and an enhanced overall experience,” said Smith.

Added Kramp: “By investing in postsecondary infrastructure, we are not only supporting our local economy, but ensuring students get the skills needed for the in-demand jobs of today and tomorrow.”

Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Loyalist College, welcomed the funding.

“From our personalized academic, career and wellness services, to our unparalleled experiential handson learning opportunities through applied research and community partnership, Loyalist College is singularly focused on ensuring our students have everything they need to succeed in their postsecondary journeys and arrive at their career destinations,” said Vaughan.

“Thank you to the Government of Ontario for this providing this generous funding as we build state-ofthe-art campus infrastructure and facilities so Loyalist can drive social and economic development in a post-COVID recovery through preparing career-ready graduates who are ready to make an immediate impact in the workforce.”

The investment is part of a $583-million provincial commitment over three years to help post-secondary institutions modernize classrooms by upgrading technology, carrying out critical repairs, improving their environmental sustainability, and supporting virtual learning projects that increase access to postsecondary education.

“Ontario’s postsecondary institutions offer world-class education, which is critical to the future of the province and our economy,” said Jill Dunlop, Minister of Colleges and Universities. “Our government’s investments to build Ontario will help colleges and universities renew and modernize their facilities and buy vital training equipment so they can continue to deliver high quality education to students – any time
and anywhere.”
