Municipality of Port Hope hosts Loyalist College architectural design presentations, April 9
As the school year draws to a close for college and university students this month, the Municipality is welcoming back Loyalist College students in the Architectural Technology program to present their final architectural design concepts at an open house taking place on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Sculthorpe Theatre (located inside the Capitol Theatre).
“Our ongoing partnership with the College has allowed us to host similar presentations from students enrolled in Loyalist’s Architectural Technology program in the past, and we have been impressed by the creativity and thought put into their design concepts,” notes Bob Sanderson, Mayor of the Municipality of Port Hope. “This open house-style presentation gives us a chance to celebrate and promote innovative thinking in our community, while giving the students an opportunity to gain valuable presentation skills and real-world working experiences. It’s a win-win and we’re excited to welcome the students back this month.”
This year, students will present their ideas on the potential redevelopment of the former Lakeland Place building, located at 74 Queen Street. Students were tasked with envisioning a suite of building options on this property that would include new municipal offices, a farmers’ market and supplementary parking.
“We’re proud of the creativity and innovation applied by our Architectural Technology students in their renderings,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, Loyalist College President & CEO. “They have the skills to assess a community’s needs and imagine how, through design, they can enhance the way people interact with the spaces in which they work and shop. This project opens doors for our students and we’re grateful for the opportunity to continue collaborating with the Municipality of Port Hope on this experiential learning initiative.”
Members of the public and the media are invited to the open house on April 9 to meet with the students, examine their renderings and discuss their work.

Note: The concepts presented at the Open House on April 9 are not being formally considered by Council and will not be considered official designs or uses for the space at 74 Queen Street.
