Belleville, ON, Dec. 2, 2022 – This week, Loyalist College proudly welcomed Arlene Dickinson to its Belleville campus for a fireside chat. More than 350 students, community members and College staff gathered to listen to the noted venture capitalist, author, speaker and Dragons’ Den star in conversation with Jill Raycroft, CEO of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce. This was the inaugural event in Loyalist College’s Speaker Series, an ongoing initiative bringing changemakers and leaders to the Bay of Quinte region.

The event began at 5:30 pm on Dec. 1, with opening remarks from Mark Kirkpatrick, Acting President of Loyalist College. Arlene answered audience-submitted questions, addressing topics from risk-taking and finding a support network, to maintaining authenticity and mental health as an entrepreneur. After the public event, a group of Loyalist College students were invited to participate in a meet-and-greet with Arlene.

“It was an honour to host Arlene on campus and share this amazing experience with a full house of students, staff, and community members,” said Mark Kirkpatrick, Acting President of Loyalist College. “As our region’s only post-secondary institution, we believe it’s our responsibility to create space for knowledge-sharing and amplifying big ideas in the Bay of Quinte. On behalf of the entire Loyalist community, I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to Arlene for answering our community’s questions with wisdom, humour and candor – and to Jill for sharing her perspective as a local business leader. The next installment of the Loyalist Speaker Series will be in March 2023, and we look forward to bringing the community on campus for another inspiring event.”
