Belleville, Ontario, July 15, 2021 – Loyalist College received a $20,000 donation from Bancroft Seniors Club 580 today. During the presentation at the College’s Bancroft campus, it was announced that $15,000 will be invested in the creation of a Bancroft Seniors Club 580 Endowment Fund to support an annual bursary to benefit students in the College’s Bancroft campus Personal Support Worker (PSW) program. As part of the total donation, $5,000 in awards for Bancroft PSW students will also be set aside for distribution over a five-year period beginning in Fall 2021.

“Loyalist College is dedicated to collaborating with both community partners and the provincial government to strengthen the region’s health care ecosystem and close the skills gap in this critical sector,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, Loyalist College President and CEO. “Thanks to this generous donation from Bancroft Seniors Club 580, Personal Support Worker students at the College’s Bancroft campus will have greater access to financial assistance as they work toward their certifications.”

The demand for PSWs is greater than ever and keeps growing to meet the needs of a retiring population. Loyalist College PSW graduates make a difference every day by helping people live with independence and dignity. This hands-on program teaches students to effectively support clients in their day-to-day activities, with an emphasis on trust, respect and individual choice. It provides students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide personal care and home management services to clients in both community and institutional settings.

“Bancroft Seniors Club 580 was established in 1973 and has provided a place for seniors to enjoy many events with their peers over the years,” said Seniors Club member Gail Bobrowicz. “We looked for an organization to support with connections to seniors and their well-being. We chose the PSW program at Loyalist College because their graduates are instrumental in helping many people, particularly seniors. Their importance has been proven in their tremendous help during COVID-19.”
