Belleville, Ontario, August 27, 2019 – Members of the community are invited to attend Loyalist College’s second annual Friday Night Lights outdoor event on Friday, September 6 from 5 to 9:30 pm to help welcome our 3,000+ full-time day students from across the region, Canada and beyond. They have chosen Loyalist College as their destination for a friendly, caring and inclusive student experience – both on campus and in our community.

For students, transitioning to College can be overwhelming as they navigate campus, make new friends, and prepare to meet the academic outcomes of their program. For those living away from home, leaving behind family and friends can be daunting, especially if it’s for the first time.

Friday Night Lights is one of a number of activities and services that Loyalist College provides to help all students settle in, feel comfortable and access supports that will ensure their success. Having members of the community attend the event builds students’ networks to connect them with things they need such as affordable housing, employment and networking opportunities. To facilitate this collaboration online, Loyalist has created loyalistcollege.com/welcome, a one-stop resource for community members to get to know our student body and post accommodations and jobs.

Friday Night Lights* will feature fun activities for the whole family:

  • Varsity Soccer Game – Cheer on the Loyalist Lancers as they hit the pitch at 6 pm to take on the George Brown Huskies during the inaugural game of the season
  • Big Games – Try your hand at rock climbing or navigating an inflatable obstacle course
  • Free Food – Join us for a barbecue
  • Bus Pull – Muscle up with Belleville Transit during a bus pull
  • Live Entertainment
  • Vendor Fair – For details and to register, contact Coordinator of Wellness Programming Ryan Stoness at rstoness@loyalistcollege.com.
  • Fireworks – The evening will conclude with a vibrant fireworks display

Loyalist College is grateful for the support of the community in welcoming students and creating opportunities for them to contribute to our region’s socioeconomic wellbeing through their education, experiences, work and global perspectives. We hope to see you at Friday Night Lights!

* All activities are subject to change. Friday Night Lights will take place rain or shine. Guests are encouraged to tap into their Lancer pride by wearing their Loyalist gear or the College’s colours – red and blue. Free parking is available.
