Loyalist College celebrates student achievements during Spring Awards and Indigenous Bursary ceremonies

Belleville, Ontario, March 25, 2019 – Loyalist College recognized 101 students during the Spring Awards Ceremony on March 20, in the Link Lounge. Made possible by 41 donors, including 25 endowed funds, a total of $67,865 was awarded, bringing the total value of awards presented this year through the Awards Office, to more than $497,600.

“We are fortunate to have a strong community of generous donors who truly believe in the value of a Loyalist College education,” said Bob Forder, Chair of the Loyalist College Board of Governors. “We appreciate the work of The Loyalist College Foundation in providing this support for our students, and sincerely thank all of our donors.”

Many of the awards made available throughout the year are provided by the endowment fund for student financial assistance, which is administered by The Loyalist College Foundation.

“Congratulations to all of our award recipients,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, Loyalist College President & CEO. “We know that these awards – made possible by the generosity of our donors – make a significant and lasting impact on students.”

The Bob Michaud Bursary, provided by the Rotary Club of Belleville in memory of former Rotarian Bob Michaud, was presented to Ashley Cooney, a second-year Business student, who has displayed outstanding sportsmanship, leadership and entrepreneurial skills.

“In addition to her studies, Ashley is working full-time and volunteering as the Enactus Loyalist Project Manager for the Tyendinaga Seed Sanctuary project,” said Margaret Werkhoven, Vice-Chair of The Loyalist College Foundation, who emceed the Ceremony.

The College’s Student Leadership Award was presented to Biotechnology Technologist student Natasha Mathieu and post-graduate Public Relations – Event Management students Darcy Eligh, Josh Roberts and Scott Rook, in recognition of their strong leadership skills which have positively impacted student life at Loyalist.

The Indigenous Post-Secondary Bursary was presented to 43 students at a ceremony held in the Indigenous Resource Centre on March 11. This bursary is provided by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities for students who are of Indigenous ancestry, studying at the College. The total value presented this year was $21,500.
